In recent years, homeownership has established itself as a lifestyle choice that enhances personal well-being, but the neighborhood remains the most decisive factor for all age groups: what has changed is its significance, which is no longer tied to one’s area of origin but to its ability to offer safety, green spaces, connectivity, amenities, and prestige. Buyers are increasingly willing to relocate—changing neighborhoods or even cities—in order to find the right property.

" Activity in terms of supply remains very tight in the farmland market. This has helped support values, which continue to improve and are now regaining the ground lost in the second half of last year. "
" In Scotland the amount of farmland publicly marketed in the national press during the first nine months of 2009 fell by -25% to 24,000 acres compared with 31,700 acres for the same period of 2008. This is similar to the figure for Great Britain as a whole, which recorded a decrease of -21% in advertised farmland. "
" “Nerves appear to have continued to calm amongst landlords and retailers’” While consumer confidence has begun to improve, we think there will be quite a long wait before spending levels return to normality. On the up-side we expect Christmas 2009 to be reasonably healthy, however political risks abound in 2010, and too early actions on tax and spending may derail a fragile recovery. "
" “Are the next investors hoteliers?” As with all UK property sectors, the hotel sector has certainly not escaped the general economic downturn. With a strong tourist and corporate travel dependency, London is expected to feel the full force. "
" In 2009 Savills International Research and HomeAway. co.uk conducted an online survey of UK overseas second home owners attracting 1,200 respondents. Analysis of the survey shows trends in buying activity over the last decade and gauges market sentiment in today’s economic climate. "
" Is the current rally in values sustainable? Of the 13 sectors monitored by Savills, 9 saw further yield hardening in October, with retail warehousing (open A1) and industrial distribution reporting the largest downward shift of 50bp. "
" With a 44% decline in values from peak-to-trough, the UK property market has faced one of its toughest tests during the past two years and has focussed investors on the importance of secure income. "
" The continued improvement in market sentiment has been evidenced by an increase in the sales rate at auctions in London. Cash buyers with increasing levels of confidence in property investment, coupled with low savings rates, are fuelling demand. This is leading to both higher sales success rates and prices. "
" Despite an aspiration to attract institutional investment to the residential sector for over 20 years since the introduction of the Assured Shorthold Tenancy, increased investment into the private rented sector has largely remained the preserve of small scale private investors. In comparison to the commercial property investment, it has therefore remained a cottage industry. "
" The number of grazing livestock on UK farms is at an historically low level with significant numbers of producers leaving the industry. The growing shortage of breeding animals is leading to a reduced supply of product and contributing towards increased prices. This factor does however create opportunities for commercial livestock units, especially where marketing expertise is available. "
