After two years of low level of large scale retail completions, more than 250,000sqm of modern retail space are expected to come onto the Greek market in 2008 and 2009 , according to the Greek office of the international real estate advisor Savills.
This will push the current average retail space density from 66sqm/1,000 inhabitants to around 87sqm, which is still one of the lowest in Europe.
Major international retail chains that are keen to expand in the country, such as IKEA, Leroy Merlin, Media Markt, Village Entertainment Cinemas etc. will be anchoring most of these schemes.
