Savills Energy is selling a 50% share in a proposed wind farm development in Aberdeenshire.
The St Johns Hill Wind Farm has the potential to generate enough electricity to supply approximately 8,800 homes. Comprising nine wind turbines, with a tip height of 80 metres, it has the capability of displacing the equivalent of approximately 35,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year from conventional fossil fuel electricity generation. The proposal will contribute towards fulfilling a number of national and international objectives, including those identified by the Kyoto protocol and the Scottish Climate Change Programme.
Nick Green of Savills Energy said: "Scotland has one of the most vibrant and internationally valued renewable energy sectors in the world. Effective, sensitively designed and profitable renewable schemes have the potential to reap good rewards for investors, and available schemes do not come along very often. This investment represents a good opportunity for individuals, investors and developers both large and small, and from all sectors, to improve their corporate responsibility credentials, and to make a good return at the same time."
The world faces unprecedented challenges in tackling climate change. This is creating huge opportunities for investors as companies and countries all over the globe move towards a low-carbon future. Wind energy is currently the fastest growing of all the renewables, increasing at a rate of around 25% per annum globally. Such growth is being driven by a number of factors, including government policy and targets and improvements in turbine technology.
The share in St John's Hill Windfarm scheme is being sold by Savills on behalf of the Administrators for FM Developments (In Administration), with the other 50% being owned by SSE's renewables company Airtricity.
