Be Safe - Let's learn how to protect ourselves

15,000 children at safety school to learn prevention through play.

The national initiative starts in Rome and will tour the whole country to explain to children - between 6 and 11 years old - how to deal with flood, fire, earthquakes and terrorist attacks

The launch event at Romaest Shopping Centre from February 29th to March 15th.

Rome, 20th February 2020 – “Be Safe – Let’s learn how to protect ourselves” aims at sensitising children to the safety culture and risk prevention in the event of a natural disaster or terrorist incident, promoting the behaviour to be adopted in situations that endanger their safety.

The initiative will engage 20 Italian cities and involve over 700 schools and more than 15,000 children. Rome hosts, at Romaest shopping centre, the first leg of the roadshow involving 30 institutions with over 1,000 kids from February 29 to March 15.

Having an adequate knowledge about safety issues and its protocols, especially in areas with high footfall, can positively influence children's behaviour by prompting them to take responsible actions.

The project is being carried out with the patronage of Arma dei Carabinieri and the Italian Red Cross and has been structured through four both playful and educational spaces via videogames: flood, fire, earthquake and terroristic attack. The activity aims to encourage the learning of safety rules through play.

Children will be accompanied by a professional safety expert, supported by an educator, who will explain how to deal with the topics without risking any consequence or trauma. Each circuit will simulate a different situation so kids can recognise each different risk signs and learn the necessary tools to better face panic and fear. Furthermore, the staff will explain children how to prevent flu infection; habits that at first glance may seem simple, but very often, help to avoid being infected by the virus or its spread.

“The creation of an activity aimed at children and linked to such a delicate topic took two years of studies and preparation which involved over 70 dedicated resources” says Yashar Deljoye Sabeti, Head of Marketing of Savills Italy, company promoting the project. “Be Safe is an initiative entirely conceived and built in Italy and involves skills and know-how to understand how to be able to talk to children about personal safety in an adequate way without generating fear and emotional disturbance. The concept is an original, innovative activity with a strong social impact that further highlights the importance of shopping centres in their district”.
