JD Sports Group – the UK’s largest Sports and Athleisure retailer – has agreed a deal with Savills and the Jervis Shopping Centre in Dublin to operate a new 35,000 square foot flagship store. Savills describe the deal as a ‘major retail coup for Jervis and the largest retail unit completed in years’.
The deal represents the first of the new style Super flagship stores for the JD Group in Ireland and will, according to Savills, be a benchmark for prime JD stores in Ireland.
Set to open in Q4 2018, the store will occupy a 35,000 sq.ft. unit over the ground and upper ground levels at the Jervis Shopping Centre. The letting to JD has been agreed at an annual rent of €2.15 million.
The JD Group began their main expansion into Ireland via high street and prime shopping malls in the 00’s. Since then, they have opened a number of units in numerous towns and cities throughout the country via new stores and through the acquisition of Champion Sports. JD are seen as one of the pillar brands and have dedicated following throughout the world. This letting marks a major investment into the brand in Ireland with the launch of this Super flagship store.
Darragh Cronin of letting agents, Savills, commented:
“This deal is the culmination of significant and active property management by Jervis Centre’s owners which included negotiating the surrender of the Forever 21 and Next Kids stores. This letting not only improves the consumer offer and tenant mix but have added significantly to the overall strength of the retail line up which is evident on JDs recent announcement of record financial performance”.
"Jervis Shopping Centre is delighted to welcome the JD store into our already excellent mix of domestic, UK and European retailers. JD’s choice of Dublin and, in turn, Jervis, as its new largest store is an excellent vote of confidence for the Irish retail sector and confirms the resiliency of the Irish retail market. We will now be announcing further exciting additions in the coming months. Further details are available upon request” added Mr. Cronin.
The Jervis Shopping Centre has been trading for over 20 years and continues to attract the premier retailers from Ireland, Europe and the US. The centre extends to approximately 36,000 sq.m. and boasts in excess of 60 retail units and 750 car parking spaces. Jervis Shopping Centre already houses a number of leading fashion retailers including Stradivarius, Bershka, Boots and New Look.
