As from today the renovation of the monumental office building at Blaak 34 in Rotterdam will start. Blaak 34 formed, alongside Blaak 28 and Blaak 40, Rotterdam’s financial quarter of the 1950’s. The coming 9 months the 9,500 sqm building will be transformed in to an exclusive multi-tenant office opportunity in one of Rotterdam’s most central, on-trend areas, comprising office space for over 800 people. After the renovation, which will be completed in Summer 2017, Blaak House will offer a modern interior and a light-filled atrium, while keeping historical details in place.
On the instruction of Real I.S., following the architectural design of V8, Savills Building & Project Consultancy carries out the project management of Blaak House. During this project, Savills manages the design team, supervises the tendering process and operational activities. Among other things, the work consists of: the full shell renovation of the floors with offices, including new ceilings, lighting, climate system, renovation of the toilet facilities and installing four new lifts. The atrium is continued on the ground floor and the atrium walls will be fully renovated. In addition, sustainability improvements will be made to meet modern standards (Energy Label A).
Julia Böhm, Head of Asset Management International at Real I.S. AG, says:
"Having the possibility to reveal the treasures of this building makes this one of my most favorite projects. We are proud to add another jewel to Rotterdam’s city architecture and are convinced, our future tenants will feel equally fond of Blaak House as we do."
Michael Fischer, Technical Advisor at Real I.S. AG & Project Manager of Blaak House, says: "This building is all about details. The modern facilities and technical equipment giving an up-to-date office environment in correlation with its old detailing and ornamental architecture makes the unique distinction between Blaak House and a regular office building."
Michiel Raaphorst, Architect, V8, says: “We are very proud that we can contribute to a revival of one of the ‘Grand Old Ladies’ of the Rotterdam post-war city reconstruction. Through a respectful and precise design strategy, this monument will be able to show its genuine and outspoken quality to a wide range of users and visitors.”
Marc van Niekerken, director Building & Project Consultancy, says: “We are very pleased with this assignment from Real I.S., and look forward to realise the sensitive, sustainable renovation of a historical building, optimizing the work environment for its future occupiers.”
Currently 9,500 sq m of office space - spread over the basement, ground floor and 6 upper floors - is available for rent in Blaak House. DTZ Zadelhoff, recently merged with Cushman & Wakefield, advises Real I.S. on the leasing of Blaak House.
