Savills Sponsored Sporting Proud Triathlon Raises €80,000 for Solas Project and ORBIS Ireland

The 2013 Sporting Proud Triathlon, sponsored by Savills Ireland, has raised €80,000 for children’s charities, Solas Project and ORBIS Ireland. Solas Project works with intervention programmes that help ensure disadvantaged and at risk kids in Dublin’s inner city are provided with an education. ORBIS is an international organisation dedicated to the treatment and prevention of blindness across the developing world.

The triathlon, which took place on the 7th September, consisted of 334 individual and team competitors. The ‘Corporate Sprint’ category of the event, which comprised of a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run, was won by Mainstream Renewable Power.

Gavin Butler, Head of CSR at Savills Ireland said, “Over the past few years, Savills has established a strong CSR programme with the aim of supporting local community projects.  We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with Solas Project over the past four years through various fundraising and volunteering activities which has given our employees an opportunity to engage with the children who are looked after so well by Solas Project.  We were delighted to support the 2013 Sporting Proud Triathlon which has helped generate a tremendous sum of money for two very worthy causes. The event itself was a resounding success and thoroughly enjoyable for all who took part – including a number of teams from Savills.  We look forward to continuing our support for similar events in the future.”

Gary Collins from Sporting Proud said, “The event was a great success this year in Brittas, with over 334 people participating as individuals and teams in the Olympic and Sprint events. We are delighted that Savills came on board to sponsor this year’s event and congratulate Mainstream RP on winning the Corporate Sprint.”

Graham Jones of Solas Project said, "We really do very much appreciate the support of Sporting Proud and all the companies like Savills that got involved with such a fantastic event. The money will go a long way in providing a vital service to children in need"

Maurice Cox, Chairman at ORBIS Ireland said “We were honoured to yet again be selected as the beneficiary charity of the Sporting Proud Triathlon. The event is the perfect opportunity to take part in a fun, team sport while raising money for two very worthwhile charities. The support we’ve received from Sporting Proud will allow ORBIS to save the sight of hundreds of people in at immediate risk of blindness.
